The Deal: The "Required Reading" commission. I'm offering a commission, at your commission rates (whatever they are). There are a couple catches and options. I have a story that many sci-fi readers tell me I should look into having published. I'm not really interested in the hassle of publishing it myself, or trying to "sell" it to a publisher. The story is novel-length. You can probably read through it in an evening if you're a fast reader, although average time is a week to a month, depending on how much you do in a sitting. Writing is the only form of "Art" I know how to do. Therefore, it's far more important to me that people take the time to read it, and pay attention to what I've created. Here's what I'm asking of you: 1) Read the story. It's PG-13, and takes place in a population in the distant future where my main character wears a chastity belt. There's mild bondage overtones (my character wears a collar, and is forced to wear a muzzle once). There's no sex, one or two scenes of violence (albeit not graphic). 1a) If for some reason you can't make it through the story -- i.e. reading it turns you off for some reason or you find you really don't have time -- I have an alternate character, my main persona, the Gushi Ferret, and I have a very simple description of it -- email me and ask. But I'd really prefer you at least give the story a try. 2) Tell me what you thought of it. A few sentences to a paragraph. Your favorite parts, what you'd change. I might ask you to elaborate on it, but I'm not asking for a detailed plot analysis or anything. Just be honest. 3) Draw ANYTHING that comes to mind for you. Characters. Maps. Model Sheets. Building plans. Geological Projections. Pictures of what the money in this world looks like. It's all important to me in some way -- I'm more interested in seeing what people interpret and take away from my "art". Advantages: 1) You don't have to do a single thing at this con. This is why I'm offering this on the last day. It's all homework, for your spare time. 2) You can decide what you want to do. I'm offering pay for a full character commission now, but if you come up with something else and decide you need more money, let me know and we'll talk. If you don't want to take it on now, this is an open offer, and something I'm always looking for. 3) I'm willing to pay a little extra for the fact that it's going to take time to read. Again, I wrote it as something people would *want* to read, but I can toss in a couple extra bucks if you found it to be a chore. Alternate Offer: I also run a web hosting service. I host hundreds of furs, including Jen "Spunky" Seng (toonapalooza.net), Sarah Davis (TheMouseKaroos.com), Michelle Latta (TenthPlanetArt.com), Cassandra "Ultraviolet" Gunn (www.ultravioletnet.com), plus a good portion of the names you'll see on furbid. I'm willing to offer a domain, completely free of charge in exchange for artwork.
